Fern Walk: hardy ferns and woodland wildflowers, wild ginger. 20 varieties of ferns and 9 varieties of wildflowers.
Hedge Collection: both sheared and unsheared. 31 genera, 57 species and 44 cultivars.
Herb Gardens: Kitchen Herb Garden, 23 genera and 34 species of perennial herbs. 700 annual herb plants.
Knot Garden: comprised of Korean boxwood, Japanese barberry, lavendar cotton and germander.
Cloistered Gardens, Fragrant Herb Garden, Dyers Garden: 59 different genera and 69 species of plants in Cloistered garden.

Naturalistic Garden: an informal backyard garden with small stone patio and bench, a wide variety of native and a
few non-native perennials, shrubs and trees. 40 genera with 9 species of trees, 9 species of shrubs and 45 species of
perennials.
Fruit and Vegetable Garden. Fruit trees, shrubs and perennials, strawberries. 32 varieties of fruit trees and shrubs,
and 23 perennials.
Garden for Outdoor Living: small backyard garden with patio, table and chairs, lawn, a perennial/annual garden and
flowering shrubs and trees. 7 species of trees, 19 types of shrubs, 57 different perennials and annuals.
Herb Garden.
Garden for Small Spaces: a small urban space, a patio area that contains small trees, flowering shrubs, perennials,
annuals, vegetables and herbs. 41 different kinds of plants in this garden.
Cutting Garden: plantings used for flower arranging. 29 different perennials and annuals.
Patio and Container Garden: hanging pots, patio containers and massive stone planters containing annuals, perennials,
dwarf trees, and shrubs. 20 different kinds.
Rock Garden: alpine plants. 282 species.
Seasonal Garden: All American Selections of annual plant winners from previous year. 5-7 new varietiesr.
Weed Exhibit. 36 different weeds.
Hosta Glade: over 300 varieties; miniatures, species, classics,
Iris Garden: tall bearded, Siberian, Japanese; 516 specimens.
Japanese Garden: The Japanese Garden “Seisui Tei” or Garden of Pure Water; granite snow lanterns, garden house, water basin
and entry gates. 20 different kinds of trees, 24 types of shrubs and 3 different ground covers.
Lilac Collection and Blackman Garden: Arboretum's oldest collection: common, French hybrids, Chinese, Preston, Peking,
and Japanese. 26 species, 123 cultivars; 179 specimens.
Anne Blackman Garden and lilac information kiosk. The kiosk gives information on lilac types and cultivation.
Lily and Dahlia Collection: 102 varieties of lilies, 50 varieties of dahlias.
Maze Garden: 1600 shrub specimens, 11 genera and 14 species and cultivars.
Ornamental Grass Collection: Miscanthus, Molinia and Panicum.
Peony Walk: 3 species of peony, 191 cultivars, 240 specimens.
Perennial Garden: 137 genera, 324 species and cultivars.
Rain Gardens: collects parking lot runoff and allows it to settle into planted swales.
Rose Gardens: 400 varieties of hybrid garden roses and hardy shrub roses.
Sensory Garden

Wildflower Garden: native plants of the deciduous woodlands, includes the Showy Lady's-slipper and Dwarf Trout-lily,
Garden for Wildlife: From butterflies to bullfrogs, the Johanna Frerichs Garden for Wildlife is a working laboratory
designed to demonstrate the most effective ways to attract birds, insects, mammals to the backyard by providing food,
helter, and a reproductive habitat.
